Who We Are

An evidence-based practice that seeks to make a difference and is guided by a highly qualified medical professional, Lydia’s Medical Nutrition Therapy Consultations LLC is the brainchild of Lydia Siphiwe Chowa, RDN, RN.

“Lydia’s Medical Nutrition Therapy Consultations LLC was developed and founded in November 2021. After being a Registered Dietitian for 43 years and a Registered Nurse for 19 years, there is almost no disease I have not dealt with in patients. I finally feel like I can concentrate on sharing my wealth of knowledge outside of the hospital setting with patients and other clients who want to change their lifestyle to either control or manage a disease and prevent or delay the onset of a disease using sound nutrition knowledge based on scientific research and evidence.”

Get to Know Lydia Siphiwe Chowa, DrPH. RD, DNP, RN

Lydia Siphiwe Chowa

Lydia Siphiwe Chowa is a registered dietitian (RDN) and registered nurse (RN). She also holds doctoral degrees in both nutrition (Doctor of Public Health Nutrition) from Loma Linda University in California and a (Doctor of Nursing Practice in Nursing) from Capella University in Minnesota.

Lydia has worked for many years as a dietitian and as a nurse in various hospitals. She combines her dietetics, nutrition, public health, and nursing knowledge in a way that allows her to assist patients and clients to successfully manage, control, and prevent chronic diseases.

For more than 39 years since 1982, she has been counseling and advising patients when she obtained her registered dietitian license and has over the years advanced her education to the highest level of education in her field.

As a dietitian in the hospital, she has worked with patients with diabetes, kidney disease, heart disease, cancer, stroke, and obesity, providing counseling and education to help them navigate these conditions. She has also worked as a nutrition consultant for a special Sweet Success and Pregnancy Program at Loma Linda University. She has taught students at multiple universities in dietetics schools and has held leadership positions at the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) as the program director and director of education. She has also held a nursing leadership position as the Director of Patient Care Services for a hospice healthcare organization.

Her passion for service was recognized in April 2012 by the American Dietetic Association, when she was honored with the Outstanding Dietetics Educator Award in the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD).

Currently, she is a program reviewer for the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics, the accrediting agency for education programs that prepare students for careers as registered dietitian nutritionists (RDNs) and dietetics technicians, registered (DTRs).

She has also been a registered nurse for 19 years. As a nurse, she has cared for patients of all diseases. In nursing, she has worked at Henry Mayo Hospital with stroke patients, cardiac patients, and telemetry patients.

She has also worked at UCLA Ronald Reagan medical center, serving in multiple units that included the Cardiac Observation Unit, the Emergency Department, the Gonda Diagnostic, Observation and Treatment (DOT), as well as in the Hematology and Stem Cell Transplant, Liver Transplant Service, Medical Surgical Specialty, Medical Telemetry, Neurology and Neurosurgery, Post-Anesthesia Care, Surgical Observation, Surgical, and Transitional Recovery units.

Lydia is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Loma Linda University, and Capella University. She has publications in both nutrition and nursing careers. Lydia also has professional memberships in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, American Nurses Association (ANA), and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. On a personal note, she is married and has 3 grown children and 3 grandchildren.
